A help sequence does not end when one defender moves. Follow the spaces left behind and the next decisions made by the rest of the unit.
What to observe
Identify the direction of help and the ball-handler’s options at that moment. A defender entering the lane does not automatically establish his original assignment. Use starting positions and teammate reactions to understand the temporary job.
How to read the sequence
Follow the connections after the pass. Someone may temporarily take an uncovered opponent while others restore distance or protect rebounding space. Watching only the defender nearest the ball misses those changes.
Limits and checks
Separate structure, communication and individual execution in the assessment. An open outside shot may follow several decisions rather than the last defender’s action alone. If the available view cannot establish responsibility, leave that uncertainty explicit.
